The problem

Everyone is using AI. Few can show their work.

69% of legal professionals now use general-purpose AI, up from 31% a year earlier, and 42% use legal-specific tools (8am 2026 report). Thomson Reuters' 2026 Future of Professionals report finds 74% use AI weekly, and corporate legal departments now expect outside counsel to use it, while few think firms deliver. The demand side has decided.

Governance has not caught up. Only 34% of firms have formally adopted AI and 43% have no AI policy; 34% of professionals use unauthorized tools. The same Thomson Reuters data shows AI meets expectations for 64% of organizations with a strategy and 29% without. Confidentiality, hallucination and audit trail are the questions a general counsel or a regulator will ask, and a chat window cannot answer them.

Regulation is on a schedule. The EU AI Act's high-risk obligations, originally due August 2026, are deferred to 2 December 2027 under the Digital Omnibus; the right posture is to prepare for 2027, not to wait for it. ISO 42001 gives AI management systems a certifiable standard, and AI governance software is forecast to grow from $418M in 2026 to $3.6B by 2033. Erbis builds legal and compliance AI with the verification layer, access controls and audit logs those frameworks require, because we had to for a law firm whose product is the document itself.

What we build

Solutions we deliver

Automate contracts and documents

Document automation that keeps the layout intact and lets lawyers edit after generation. For a leading Eastern European law firm, Erbis cataloged 10,000+ Word contracts, trained an LLM on the firm's own documents, and added a controller that verifies every extracted field: 10x faster contract creation, 28,800 hours and €3.5M saved a year, delivered in 4.5 months.

  • Template and clause libraries generated from your existing contracts
  • LLMs trained or tuned on your documents, with a verification controller against the source
  • Generation into your corporate format in Word, with post-generation editing preserved
  • Intranet-only interfaces with role-based access, so paralegals can draft safely
  • Integration with CLM, DMS and e-signature tools

Give lawyers a research and knowledge assistant they can cite

Retrieval-based assistants over your matters, precedents, playbooks and licensed case law sources, with every answer linked to the passage it came from and nothing invented when the source is missing.

  • Retrieval over DMS, matter files, precedent banks and licensed legal databases
  • Citations to the source passage on every answer; abstain when no source exists
  • Knowledge management: clause and precedent search, matter summaries, expertise finding
  • Ethical walls and matter-level permissions enforced in retrieval
  • Evaluation sets built with your lawyers, re-run before and after every model change

Run KYC/KYB and compliance monitoring with a person on the final call

Onboarding and monitoring systems that verify identity and ownership, screen against sanctions and PEP lists, monitor transactions and flag suspicious patterns, with AI doing the first pass and compliance officers making the decision.

  • KYC/KYB onboarding with document verification and beneficial-ownership checks
  • Sanctions, PEP and adverse-media screening with explainable match reasons
  • AML transaction monitoring with AI triage to cut false positives
  • Case management with a full audit trail for regulators
  • Regulatory change monitoring that maps new rules to affected controls

Automate GRC and produce the audit trail

Governance, risk and compliance platforms that replace spreadsheets: control libraries mapped to frameworks, evidence collected automatically from your systems, risk registers with predictive analytics, and reports an auditor can trace.

  • Control mapping across ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR, HIPAA and sector rules
  • Automated evidence collection from cloud, identity and ticketing systems
  • Risk registers, third-party risk and incident management workflows
  • ESG and regulatory reporting pipelines with data lineage
  • Policy management with versioning, attestation and audit logs

Govern your own AI: ISO 42001 readiness and the EU AI Act

AI governance built into the systems you deploy, and readiness work for the frameworks you will be assessed against: ISO 42001, NIST AI RMF and the EU AI Act's high-risk obligations from December 2027.

  • AI inventory and risk classification against the EU AI Act categories
  • ISO 42001 gap assessment and the management-system documentation it requires
  • Model cards, evaluation records and monitoring evidence generated by the systems themselves
  • Human oversight, logging and transparency controls implemented in code
  • Policy and training for unauthorized-tool risk across the firm

Run e-discovery, matter intake and case management

Document review and classification for discovery, intake that structures a new matter from the first email, and case management that centralizes data and keeps clients informed through secure portals.

  • E-discovery review with AI classification, privilege flagging and defensible sampling
  • Matter intake and conflict checks automated from email, forms and CRM
  • Case management with deadlines, tasks and document links in one place
  • Secure client portals and collaboration with audit trails
  • Smart contracts and blockchain records where an immutable trail is required

How AI fits the systems you already run

Legal and compliance AI has to fit around the DMS, the CLM and the confidentiality rules that already govern the firm. Erbis builds the AI as a layer on those systems, inside your network, with a verification step and an audit log on every output.

01

Integration map

Document management (iManage, NetDocuments, SharePoint), contract lifecycle management and e-signature (DocuSign, Adobe Acrobat Sign), practice and matter management, billing and e-billing, Microsoft 365 and Word, CRM and intake forms, identity providers, and for compliance teams: KYC data providers, sanctions lists, ticketing and cloud APIs for evidence collection. AI services read and write through those systems' APIs and never hold the only copy of a document.

02

Confidentiality and data governance

Client data stays inside your environment: on-premises or in your cloud tenant, with models deployed there rather than called across the internet. Ethical walls and matter permissions are enforced at retrieval time, not just in the interface. Erbis is ISO 27001 certified, follows a secure development lifecycle, and designs for GDPR and professional-secrecy obligations from the first sprint.

03

Verification and human-in-the-loop

Every generated document or extracted field passes a verification layer that checks it against the source, the pattern that let a law firm automate 10,000+ contracts without hallucinated terms. Research assistants cite or abstain. Compliance decisions are made by a named officer on an AI-triaged case. Evaluation sets are built with your lawyers and re-run on every model or prompt change.

04

Run and support

Monitoring for accuracy drift as templates, laws and models change, usage and cost per matter, and the audit evidence your compliance function needs to keep. Erbis maintains and extends the system across practices and jurisdictions, and you own the code, models and prompts from day one. The law firm above rolled the contract system out across M&A, corporate, IP and tax practices after the first deployment.

How it works

How we work with you

  1. 01

    Discovery and R&D

Two to three weeks. We map document types, systems, confidentiality rules and the metric that matters (hours per contract, review turnaround, false-positive rate, audit findings), and run feasibility R&D on your own documents before committing to a build.

  2. 02

    Build with verification

Models tuned on your documents, a verification controller, and the interface lawyers or compliance officers will use, inside your network. Something working within 2 weeks; a production-grade pilot with a measured result typically in 4.

  3. 03

    Integration and validation

Connect DMS, CLM, e-signature, practice management and compliance data sources; enforce permissions at retrieval; validate outputs against held-out documents with your lawyers until accuracy meets the agreed threshold.

  4. 04

    Rollout and support

Extend practice by practice and jurisdiction by jurisdiction. Erbis monitors, retrains and documents the system, and hands over code, models and audit evidence at every phase.

FAQ

Legal & Compliance: questions we get asked

What types of legal technology solutions does Erbis build?

Nine areas for law firms and legal departments: document workflow automation; audit, risk and compliance (GRC); cybersecurity; blockchain and smart contracts; case management; legal research; knowledge management; client collaboration; and workflow efficiency across the firm. Most of that work now carries an AI layer: LLMs tuned on the client's documents, research assistants with citations, and compliance triage with a person making the decision.

How do you stop the AI from inventing clauses or citations?

With a verification layer, not a disclaimer. For contract automation we trained an LLM on the firm's own 10,000+ contracts and built a controller that checks every extracted field against the source document. Research assistants retrieve from your sources, cite the passage, and abstain when there is none. Evaluation sets built with your lawyers run before and after every model change, and outputs are logged for review.

Where does our client data go?

It stays with you. Systems run on-premises or inside your cloud tenant; the contract system above is reachable only on the firm's intranet, and even attorneys do not have blanket access to the full contract database. Models are deployed inside your environment rather than called across the internet, ethical walls are enforced at retrieval time, and Erbis is ISO 27001 certified.

Can you help us prepare for the EU AI Act and ISO 42001?

Yes. The EU AI Act's high-risk obligations are now deferred to 2 December 2027, which is time to prepare rather than a reason to wait. Erbis runs an AI inventory and risk classification and an ISO 42001 gap assessment, and builds the logging, oversight and evaluation evidence into the systems themselves so the management-system documentation reflects what actually runs. We also help write the internal AI policy that 43% of firms still lack.

What have you delivered for law firms and compliance teams?

A contract automation system for a leading Eastern European law firm that saves 28,800 hours and €3.5M a year, delivered in 4.5 months and rolled out across M&A, corporate, IP and tax practices. Its Managing Partner said the system “has exceeded our expectations. It integrates seamlessly with our operations, maintains high standards, and provides robust security.” Also: AI invoice processing at ~95% straight-through across 10+ companies, AI agents for identity administration, and a phishing-simulation platform for Phishfirewall.

Do you work with legal-tech product companies as well as firms?

Yes. Law firms and legal departments, legal-tech product companies, and compliance teams in regulated industries. For product companies we bring product engineering (multi-tenant architecture, single sign-on, the security posture enterprise procurement asks for) alongside the AI work. Erbis has built legal tech since 2012, our CTO spent three years as Chief Innovation Officer at a top law firm, and we are a member of the Legal Tech Verband Deutschland.
